Recommended Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at Kayseri
Airport, meet our driver at the exit gate and transfer
to Cappadocia. Overnight at a high cave hotel in Cappadocia.
Day 2: Take the rental car in the morning
then meet the lunar landscape of Cappadocia: rock
formations beyond belief in Devrent valley; walk in
Zelve Open Air Museum: a journey in the past with its
troglodyte houses; visit Pasabag “fairy chimneys
valley” where the voice of wind mixes with the
“songs of fairies”. Avanos could be the
best place for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the famous
Goreme Open Air Museum and see the best examples of
Byzantine art in rock-cut churches with frescoes and
paintings (10th to 13th century). End your day with
a climb up the Uchisar Rock-Castle to have a panoramic
view of the valleys of Cappadocia. Overnight at a high
quality cave hotel in Cappadocia.
Day 3: In the morning, visit Mustafapasa
(Sinassos), an ancient Greek town with its spectacular
old Greek houses, very fine examples of late Greek settlements
and architecture. Keslik Monastery, near Cemil village,
hides its frescoes behind a very thin smoke layer, which
you can only see by torchlight. Then drive to Soganli,
an Open Air Museum in a wild natural setting near a
typical Cappadocian village with its different style
rock-cut churches with paintings. Villages in the valleys,
surrounded by the “table top” mountains,
are spectacular. On the way back to your hotel, visit
the Medrese (Theological School) from Seljuk Turks in
Taskinpasa, the witness of an early and rich Turkish
settlement in the town. This Medrese is today used as
a library. Overnight at a high quality cave hotel in
Cappadocia.
Day 4: In the morning, descend into
the centre of the earth in the Underground city of Kaymakli,
the widest of the 40 others in Cappadocia; visit Ihlara
Canyon and Belisirma village, the ancient Peristrema:
“Valley of the Sky” along the Melendiz River.
Rock-cut churches, spread across a wild plantation,
surprise you with their successfully painted representations
from the Bible. Have lunch in Belisirma at a local restaurant
by the river. On the way back, first stop at Selime
village and then visit the Caravanserai of Agzikarahan,
a very fine example of the Turkish Seljuk art, built
in early 13th century on the legendary Silk Road for
the accommodation of the traders and their camels. Drive
to Kayseri Airport, leave the rental car and take the
late evening flight back to Istanbul.
ARGEUS
recommends the itinerary above for the fly &
drive program in Cappadocia. This tour may be
extended or shortened. Your car would be picked
up at your hotel on your first morning and dropped
off in Kayseri Airport. A fully guided Cappadocia
tour is highly recommended.
