is the name given to the region in central Anatolia
which was once the heart of the Hittite Empire, later
an independent kingdom, and then a vast Roman province.
Explore the fascinating
region by mountain bike and discover the places the
crowds never reach. Millions of years of volcanic activity
and erosion have resulted in a surreal, lunar type landscape
littered with strange rock formations. In addition,
churches beautifully decorated with frescoes, houses
and underground cities hollowed out of the soft rock
offer an insight in to life in the region as it was
centuries ago. Small tracks covered in volcanic sand
twist and turn among the rock formations, valleys, vineyards
and villages, offering a wonderful way to explore the
region far away from any kind of motor traffics.
As Turkey’s mountain bike specialist,
Argeus Travel is able to offer a wide range of bike
tours lasting up to 15 days. Accommodation is generally
in high quality cave hotels, although camping is possible
depending on the tour. Tailor made tours can be arranged
for groups of minimum 2, or individuals can join a fixed
tour. A professional guide, with expert knowledge of
the area, accompanies all tours, as does a support vehicle.
Most of the cycling is on small tracks covered with
volcanic sand and quiet roads, and daily distances range
from 20 to 70km. During the spring the region is covered with
wild and colorful flowers and autumn is the time for grapes.
Both, spring and autumn, with the mild climate, are the
perfect seasons for cycling in the area.
Mountain bikes are essential in this area, and available
for hire from Argeus
Full board is supplied during the tour and vegetarian
food is available.
